Privacy Policy

SplitGas (“the Service”) is operated by Sawary Trading LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company (“we,” “us,” or “our”).

Information you provide:

• Email address — used to create and manage your account
• Trip data — vehicle make/model/year, trip distance, rider count, and calculated cost — stored to build your trip history
• Rider nicknames and phone numbers — phone numbers are optional and used only to send SMS payment reminders via Twilio if you choose to use that feature

Information collected automatically:

• Location (approximate state) — requested once per session to look up your regional gas price. Your coordinates are never stored; only the derived US state code is stored temporarily in your session.
• Push notification token (FCM) — stored only if you grant notification permission, used to send you trip summaries and subscription reminders
• Device and usage data — standard server logs including IP address, browser type, and pages visited, retained for up to 90 days for security and debugging purposes

• To provide and improve the Service
• To calculate and display gas cost estimates
• To send push notifications and SMS reminders you have opted into
• To send subscription status emails, including trial end and payment reminders. You may opt out of these at any time from your Account Settings.
• To manage your subscription and process payments through Stripe
• To send AI-generated gas price insights (paid subscribers only)
• To communicate about your account, including legal and security notices
• To comply with applicable law

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for behavioral advertising.

We use the following third-party providers to operate the Service:

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Trip records are kept until you delete them or close your account. Push notification tokens are removed when you revoke notification permission or delete your account. Rider phone numbers are deleted when you remove the rider or delete your account. Server logs are retained for up to 90 days.

The Service is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, contact us at hello@splitgas.app and we will delete it promptly.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate personal data
• Request deletion of your personal data
• Opt out of certain data uses
• Data portability (receive a copy of your data in a machine-readable format)

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@splitgas.app. We will respond within 30 days. You may also delete your account and all associated data directly from the Account page in the app.

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of your personal information. We do not sell personal information. To submit a CCPA request, contact us at hello@splitgas.app.

If you are a Canadian resident, your personal information is protected under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation. Under PIPEDA, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Correction — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
• Withdrawal of consent — withdraw consent for the collection, use, or disclosure of your information (subject to legal or contractual restrictions)
• Deletion — request deletion of your account and associated data

Cross-border data transfer: SplitGas stores data on servers located in the United States via Google Firebase (Google Cloud Platform). By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your personal information to the United States, where it is subject to U.S. privacy laws. We apply the same security and privacy protections regardless of where data is stored.

Data sources: For Canadian users, gas prices are sourced from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). Vehicle fuel economy data comes from the NRCan Fuel Consumption Guide and fueleconomy.gov. Your province is detected from geolocation coordinates — we store the province code only, never your exact coordinates.

When a driver adds you as a linked rider, certain trip data is shared with you for cost verification purposes. You can see: the driver's username, vehicle type and fuel efficiency, route distance, gas price and source attribution, and your cost breakdown. You cannot see: the driver's home address, email, phone number, payment methods, or other riders' information.

When you delete your rider account, your username in the driver's records is replaced with "Removed Rider." Trip cost records are preserved for the driver's financial records, but your identity is removed.

When you join a carpool group, all group members can see your username and trip count within the group. Group trip cost breakdowns are visible to all members. If the group creator deletes the group, all members lose access to the group dashboard, but individual linked trip records are preserved.

Leaderboard participation is opt-in only. If you opt in, your username and monthly trip count are visible to other authenticated users in your state or province. No financial data, email, phone number, or other personal information is displayed on leaderboards.

You may request a complete export of your SplitGas data at any time via the "Download My Data" button in Account Settings. The export includes your profile, trips, connections, group memberships, streaks, and legal acceptance records. The download link is sent to your registered email and expires after 24 hours. This satisfies CCPA "Right to Know" (US) and PIPEDA "Right of Access" (CA) requirements.

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including TLS encryption in transit, Firebase Authentication for account security, and Firestore security rules that restrict data access to the authenticated owner. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

SplitGas stores certain data locally on your device using your browser's localStorage mechanism. This data never leaves your device and is not sent to our servers:

• Venmo handles — per-rider Venmo usernames for payment requests
• Last-known gas prices — cached for offline fallback when you have no internet connection
• Onboarding completion flag — remembers if you completed the setup flow
• UI preferences — dismiss states for banners and prompts

You can clear this data at any time via your browser settings. Clearing it will not affect your server-side account data.

In the event of a data breach that compromises your personal information, we will notify affected users via email within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach, consistent with applicable law. We will also notify relevant regulatory authorities where required.

The notification will include: (a) a description of what happened, (b) the types of data involved, (c) steps we are taking, and (d) steps you can take to protect yourself.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy and updating the effective date above. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
